Alder Valley 185 (GPC734N) was new in NBC red. It was never painted in Alder Valley Ribble red, but when Alder Valley was split into Bee Line and AVS (Alder Valley South) an attempted version of Bee Line livery combined a shade akin to Ribble red with the yellow eventually adopted. So here is 185 in that scheme about to enter Aylesbury Bus Station from Wycombe. |

Former Alder Valley VR 948 (TPE154S) also had the same livery, though not for long. The bus is seen near Handy Cross at High Wycombe on route to Reading, but smoke started to issue from the engine compartment. |

There was a lot of smoke. I had to show the driver how to turn off the engine at the rear! |

There's no smoke without fire! |

The Buckinghamshire Fire Brigade soon turned up with one of their rare Dodge tenders. Strangely the Wycombe to Reading route became the scene of many bus fires, Arriva losing several Volvo singledeckers on what became the 800/850 routes. |
