Perth has long had a network of free central area city services designed as much for city workers as tourists. The brand name CAT (Central Area Transit) was adopted with a new fleet of purpose built low floor buses supplied by DAB. Their rare Midcity Series 2, model 0860S-022, was configured as a 19 seater. There were two routes around the city denoted blue and red. DAB Midcity 1 (CAT1) is allocated to the blue route and is adorned with a blue coloured CAT symbol. It is seen at work in July 1998 when just over two years old being delivered in May 1996, four months ahead of the rest of the production batch of 16.

CAT 1 is seen again in April 2003. By this time the CAT route branding had been eliminated from the vehicles to allow more flexible working, so its red route is denoted by the red destination display.

No fewer than three DAB CATs are seen back in July 1998 heading along Wellington Street, in front of the main station, with 13 (CAT13) on the red route in front.
