Showbus 79 began the long association of 'bendibuses' with the Showbus Rally. Something of a scoop saw what was to become South Yorkshire 2001 (DAK301V) operating the free service between Uxbridge Station and the showground, courtesy of MAN. The bus operated on temporary German export plates and created some concern subsequently with Grey-Green and H.M. Customs and Excise, who thought Grey-Green - then Showbus sponsors - were operating the vehicle without paying road tax or import duty! The vehicle went into service with South Yorkshire on its pioneering articulated bus service, joining four others after completing a demonstration tour of the UK. It later passed to Midland Red North and is thought to have ended up in Australia with Cairns Transit, check out the picture in our Australian Bus Images gallery. |

MAN's demonstration driver was a former employee of Red Rover - Keith Coaches so arranged to garage the bendibus overnight for the weekend in the Red Rover yard where it is seen nose in alongside one of their ex Nottingham MCW bodied AEC Renowns.
