This Rotherham Corporation Roe bodied Daimler CVG6-30 might appear to be with the Corporation still but its South Yorkshire PTE fleetnumber, 1263, is a give away. The bus was new to Rotherham as 63 (FET63D) and joined a large fleet of similar buses, though oddly the Corproation received three Neepsend bodied AEC Regent V doubledeckers that year too. Thereafter they remained loyal to the Daimler/Roe doubledeck combination as the CVG6 gave way to the Fleetline.

Still looking owned by Sheffield Transport, no one has painted its blue bands cream is South Yorkshire PTE East Lancs bodied Bristol VRTSL6G 273 (OWE273K), a quirky purchase from before PTE days.

In its early days South Yorkshire PTE mopped up a number of local independent operators including Blue Ensign of Doncaster. This Plaxton Supreme bodied Bedford YLQ is seen on a private hire and has been numbered into the PTE fleet as 1097 (PKY417R). The bus fleet consisted mainly of Roe bodied Fleetlines which blended well into the PTE main fleet.

Ever quirky, the South Yorkshire PTE fleet ultimately standardised on the Dennis Dominator, whereas other PTE fleets looked, like London, to the MCW Metrobus and Leyland Olympian. Bodies were supplied by East Lancs, but largely - as in this case - by Alexander, this is 2135 (MWB855W) which appears to be visiting West Midlands PTE when new, parked alongside the Foden recovery unit, 102.

This bus was a demonstrator before joining the fleet and is seen exhibited at the 1984 Motor Show at the NEC in Birmingham. The ECW coach bodied Olympian was on the Leyland stand. It was in the colours of long established London operator, Ebdon's of Sidcup. However the coach never operated for them and the Leyland demonstrator was ultimately acquired by the PTE in 1986 and entered service as their number 100 with the registration 4475WE, from former Sheffield Leyland Titan PD3 475. |
