The outstanding feature of Memphis' transport system is its vintage tram system. Besides being a tourist attraction providing a useful service for visitors the length of Main Street, it also provides a service from downtown along Madison Avenue to the Medical Center. The mainstay of the fleet are Portuguese and Australian vintage trams, but this one needs a closer look. It was built in the United States in Ida Grove, Iowa in 1993 by the Gomaco Trolley Company. Car 1979 was built by Gomaco as a demonstrator, besides helping to restore Memphis' Melbourne trams the company has supplied replica street cars to Portland, Little Rock and Charlotte, NC, amongst others.
