Seen just before Christmas 2016 on Lonsdale Street in the city was 380126 (BS02LO) from the first batch of Volgren Optimus bodied Scanias, a K310UB, delivered in October that year. Only nineteen buses had been purchased since 2013, all Scanias, but with Malaysian built Gemilang bodies. However the ageing Transdev Melbourne fleet was beginning to experience major reliability problems resulting in a number of vehicles being put off the road in a fleet inspection two years later. This resulted in a large state funded order for new buses bodied locally by Volgren. Despite huge criticism of Trasndev at the time, part of the deal included a six month extension to their 2013 franchise.
