Quenchwell & Co Austin CXB Barnard Katie
We received this week's picture from Nicky Wilkins. Her grandfather used to drive a Guernsey Motors 42 (4507), one of four unique 1948 Barnard 33 seat bodied Austin CXB buses in the fleet. This however is 44 (4510), since reregistered VVS913 and put to work in a second life on the Scilly Isles with Quenchwell & Co, christened Katie and retaining its 44 fleet number. Nicky appeared to think the buses were one and the same and was keen to track down her grandfather's bus, or a model of it. The history of 44 is known up until 2018 when it was bought by a John Kennedy in Worcestershire but Nicky thinks it is in a Midlands bus museum. I daresay her grandfather got to drive both 42 and 44 (and the rest of the quartet, 43 and 45). If anyone can help complete the picture (that does not mean the jigsaw!) please get in touch via our contact page. Both buses mentioned can be seen on Guernsey in our Guernsey Motors gallery.
We have thousands of pictures to choose from for our Picture of the Week but you are welcome to send in your own. If we do not feature it here, it may appear later in our picture gallery.
Ideally pictures should be 732 pixels wide and no more than 100kB.
