Following on from last week's Transdev Melbourne PTV liveried Scania, we have 6003, one of the latest trams to join the Yarra Trams fleet. The new E class tram is seen at St Kilda Triangle in the new green PTV livery currently being applied to elderly Z class trams too. Lettering along the side proclaims YOUR NEXT GENERATION TRAM and window stickers state Made in Melbourne for Melbourne. The trams are being deployed on route 96 from St Kilda to Brunswick, currently the home to 5 section Combino machines. The 3 section Bombardier Flexity Swifts appears no bigger, but the seating of 64 and total capacity of 210 compares to the 56 seat and 130 capacity of the displaced Combinos. The E class is over a year late entering service and the fifty on order will take five years to deliver! They are being assembled at Dandenong with propulsion systems and bogies coming from Bombardier's Mannheim and Siegen factories in Germany.
