Seen in San Francisco three days ago at the Market Street terminus of the famous cable cars is car number 1. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the city's iconic cable cars 1 had been repainted in the livery of the Powell Street Railway Co, all the cars had window displays noting the anniversary with a QR code to find out more about the history of that particular car. There were also posters in the windows at the terminus illustrating the history of the now novel means of transport. As an added touch car 1 had some tasteful Halloween decorations on the roof. As part of the celebrations, the less popular double ended California street cars were offering all day travel for just $5. The Powell Street cars continued to be $8 each way, though MUNI offers one, three and seven day tourist passes covering the streetcars, trolleybuses and buses too. If arriving from the UK or Europe take advantage of the jetlag and get up early and take several rides before the tourist crowds build and queues can take around an hour to get to the front. Whilst queueing you will doubtless see many cars and crews sat around waiting their departure slot, though they could probably clar the queue inside ten minutes if they wanted to. It may be a restriction on the number of cars using the cable at any one time, there again they could reduce the number of cars and crews in use substantially if that were the case.
