An unfortunate incident on Thursday afternoon this week when Yarra Trams Z3 class 157, city bound on route 16 on Fitzroy Street was struck by a car, which had probably run the red light at the junction with Lakeside Drive. A Seimens Combino tram headed the other way was unable to proceed with the Z3 derailed and the car both blocking the track. Police and ambulance were in attendance and Yarra Trams did not take to long to get 157 back on track and the 16 service back to normal, but already 16 trams were being diverted away from St Kilda and following the route 3 line along St Kilda Road.
