Red Rover Bedford YMT Caetano Estoril 131
We take you back around forty years for this wintery view of the Red Rover yard one Sunday. Shivering in the snow is Caetano Estoril bodied Bedford YMT 131 (HUD649S). The striped livery had the locals referring to them as the "bumble bees". The coaches were built to bus grant specification, so they had exceptionally wide one piece doors, which made them very heavy, air operated they would hesitate to close then slam shut, occasionally catching an unwary passenger. Three steep steps brought passengers lugging their heavy shopping to floor level. Needless to say they were not popular. The Leyland National alongside was much better suited and the Plaxton bodied Leyland Leopard behind, 126 (AJO311R) a good second choice. That coach was a driver's favourite. A pair of ex City of Nottingham MCW bodied AEC Renowns, of which Red Rover had five, are sat at the back of the yard.
We have thousands of pictures to choose from for our Picture of the Week but you are welcome to send in your own. If we do not feature it here, it may appear later in our picture gallery.
