In the nineties MTA took delivery of around 1500 Orion V buses, both diesel and CNG gas powered versions. These replaced MCI Classics and early RTS models, though deliveries overlapped with the last few hundred NovaBus RTS buses. This August 2005 view of diesel powered Orion V, 624, was taken downtown. It is from an delivery in 1991.

Heading for Midtown in July 2008 was Orion V 708. The large roof pod shows that this is a CNG gas powered bus. Less obvious is that the bus was originally a demonstration unit fitted with overhead luggage racks. It entered service in 1997 with the Command Bus Company, one of the independent franchise operators swallowed up by MTA in 2005.
