Cheltenham District Traction was founded in 1929 and acquired by the Red & White group in 1939. When the group was sold to the government's Tilling Group in 1950, the Cheltenham operations were put in the hands of Bristol Omnibus. Seen in the Winkleigh premises of the West of England Transport Collection in August 2013 was one of the last buses delivered to Cheltenham in the Red & White days. Typical of the Group's deliveries was this 1949 Metro-Cammell bodied Albion Venturer CX19, 72 (HDG448). Though the fleetname incorporated the Cheltenham crest, unlike the Bristol city fleet and other similar operations there was no direct involvement with the local municipal authority.

The bus was delivered as L98 in 1959, behind is a newer forward entrance FLF. Cheltenham also had a surprising number of the rarer, shorter FSF model.
