Still working on the 78 in April 2014 was car 907 with the unusual destination Prahran in the middle of the route. By the end of the year that W class had been retired and were no longer on the 78. Interestingly, though Class Z cars had subsituted in the evenings, the service has become home to Class A trams. It was a shame to see the Class W trams leave the 78, one of the few non radial routes on the network. Chapel Street is a place of character and the W Class suited it well. Locals still say it is quicker to walk up Chapel Street than take the tram and with the A Class that is still true, but as most passengers hop on the 78 without touching on with their Myki cards, they can hardly complain about the slow progress.

Night views of Class W trams became increasingly difficult, with Class Z cars normally replacing them on the 78/79 in the evenings. The Restaurant Cars obviously ran at night. Here car 960 is seen in March 2014 on the discontinued working to St Kilda and Luna Park.
