Besides being the first electric system, Hobart was the first system in the world to operate an entirely doubledeck fleet. Number 46 dates from 1922 and like its stablemates was reduced to a singledecker in 1948 after a spate of derailments causing the deckers to topple over. Scrapped six years later the body of 46, like many others, was sold for use as a shed. It was discovered as such in 1973 and painstaking restoration had it ready to be on show in Elizabeth Street Mall for the city's centenary of public transport. The tram sadly lacks an underframe and running gear so is not going anywhere in a hurry.
