Plaxton is Britain's number one builder of luxury coach bodies. It acquired its biggest rival, Duple, in 1989 and strengthened its position in bus body building by taking over Northern Counties in 1995. Plaxton was merged with Alexander and Dennis briefly as Transbus and is now part of ADL (Alexander-Dennis Ltd), itself recently acquired by New Flyer Industries. Plaxton builds Enviro products alongside its coach range at its Scarborough premises. The company celebrated its centenary in 2007.
